Kyiv, Warsaw to discuss if Poland can join talks on Donbas crisis in Sept

Ukraine and Poland will discuss in September the possibility of Warsaw joining the talks on settling the crisis in Donbas, deputy chief of staff of the Ukrainian presidential administration Kostiantyn Yeliseyev has said.

"We, together with Polish party, coordinate our approaches, and today, immediately after Berlin, I had a talk with the diplomatic advisor to President Duda [Polish President Andrzej Duda]. I can make an announcement that in early September a special envoy from Duda will come to us, with whom we'll discuss a roadmap of bilateral relations between the two presidents [of Ukraine and Poland], as well as the further possible engagement of Poland in the settlement of the crisis in Donbas," he said at a briefing in Kyiv on Tuesday.

Yeliseyev added that Ukraine appreciates Poland's preparedness to join the efforts aimed at resolving the conflict, which is why Poland remains an important strategic partner.

He also confirmed that Ukraine is open to modifying the format of the talks.

"It doesn't matter what format [the talks] will be, and for people in Donbas as well. The main thing is to bring peace and tranquility in Donbas. It doesn't matter what the format will be: Geneva, Normandy or any other format. The main thing is to push forward the Minsk process, and in what way to do that is our diplomats' responsibility," he said.

Earlier, Duda had initiated a new format of the Minsk talks on the crisis in Donetsk and Luhansk regions involving the most powerful European states, as well as states which border Ukraine, including Poland

Duda plans to discuss the broader format of talks on the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis when he visits Berlin next week.
