Border Guard Service creates development strategy taking Russia's aggression into account

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine will present a new strategy of its development to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine by the end of the month, First Deputy Head of the service Vasyl Servatiuk has said.

"By August 28, the Development Strategy for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine will be presented to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine for approval," Servatiuk told journalists at Boryspil airport.

He said the strategy is divided into two stages – until 2017 and until 2020. The strategy was drawn up to react to new types of threats, particularly Russian military aggression against Ukraine, the temporary occupation of Crimea by Russia, and the participation of Russian troops, instructors and mercenaries in the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

According to him, the strategy foresees the operation of the State Border Guard Service as a law enforcement agency on the western border of Ukraine, and an increase in the military component of the service in the eastern and southern sections of the Ukrainian border.
