Anti-Corruption Bureau Head: PGO's investigation of his wife's trip to London is attempt to pressure him

Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine Artem Sytnyk has said that the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine's investigation of the trip of bureau's delegation t to London is an attempt to pressure him, reads bureau's Facebook.

"Meetings with representatives of (London-based) NCA took place on July 20 and 21. The trip was held upon the invitation of British colleague, who funded it. The schedule was very tight, and we're already using the experience when forming the bureau. In addition to me and First Deputy Director Giza Uglavi, the delegation consisted of Iryna Danko, advisor on international cooperation that works on attracting donor aid for the bureau," Sytnyk explained.

He noted that his wife wasn't a part of the delegation, but simply visited her sister. "I paid for tickets from my salary amounting to UAH 70,000," he said.

Sytnyk is sure that attempts top pressure him and bureau's employees will happen in future. "We announced that we start an investigation on September 1 and pointed out risks of not electing an Anti-Corruption Prosecutor by that time. I think that PGO's case is related to it," he said.

Sytnyk also noted that Part 1, Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of power or position) foresees "inflicting damage to certain citizens' rights, freedoms and interests defended by the law as well as to state, public or legal entities interests."

"I wonder what kind of damage we could have inflicted by the visit to British colleagues that help us build a modern Anti-Corruption Bureau," he said.
