UN representatives to help organize ATO zone pass system – Donetsk Regional State Administration

UNDP representatives will assist in organizing a pass system for the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) zone in Donbas by addressing the International Organization for Migration.

Country Director at UNDP Ukraine Jan Thomas Hiemstra made this announcement during a meeting with First Deputy Head of Donetsk Regional State Administration Yevhen Vilinsky and Deputy Head of Donetsk Regional State Administration Viktor Andrusiv on Wednesday.

According to the administration's press service, Head of Cooperation in the EU Delegation to Ukraine Berend de Groot and Project Coordinator at EU Delegation to Ukraine Helga Pender also participated in the meeting.

According to Hiemstra and de Groot, the UNDP's goal is to help refugees and provide psychological support for them. In addition, there will be a considerable amount of focus given to demining.

Another priority is cooperation with the media. The EU delegation to Ukraine is planning to provide information and verified facts to allow the public to receive objective information, Pender said.

In addition, the members of the international delegation noted that they were paying a lot of attention to decentralization and law enforcement reform in Ukraine, as Donetsk region could become an example for the country.

In turn, Andrusiv said he supported the position of the UNDP and he hoped that the international delegation would share its opinion on the strategic development plan for the region until 2025, which is currently being developed.

Vilinsky noted that law enforcement reform should first of all be conducted in Donetsk region, as gaining positive results near the ATO zone would show that the reform can be successful.

According to the administration, after the meeting the parties signed a memorandum of understanding between the UNDP and Donetsk Regional State Administration.
