One Ukrainian soldier killed, three wounded in Luhansk region

A Ukrainian army KamAZ truck with four servicemen onboard had come under attack near the village of Lopaskino in the Novoaidarsky district; one serviceman was killed and the other three suffered injuries, Luhansk region military-civilian administration head Hennadiy Moskal has reported.

The shooting incident happened on Tuesday, says the report posted on Moskal's website. "The village is situated 15 kilometers from Triokhizbenka, on the eastern bank of the Siversky Donets River, along which the frontline goes. Illegal shipments of alcohol, food and other items [so-called contraband] are sporadically made from Ukraine-controlled land to the occupied territory of the Luhansk region in this area," Moskal wrote.

In his words, the Ukrainian servicemen were patrolling the area along Siversky Donets to prevent illegal shipments. They came under rifle and grenade launcher fire in the line of duty.

"The gunfire came from the western [occupied] bank of the river, which is only 20 meters wide in this area. One soldier [aged 26] was severely hit by shrapnel and bullets. Unfortunately, he died at the hospital. Another three servicemen with injuries of varying degrees are receiving hospital treatment," the governor said.
