Radiation levels in Kyiv normal - Emergencies Service

The radiation levels in Kyiv haven't changed in connection with a fire in the territory of the Chоrnobyl Puscha facility for the management of the Chоrnobyl exclusion zone, Kyiv region, the Ukrainian State Emergencies Service's branch in Kyiv reported.

"According to the official report of the Ukraine Weather Center, radiation levels stood at 11 micro Roentgens per hour in Kyiv as of 10.30 on April 29 [the normal levels are 8-12 micro Roentgens per hour). Radiation levels are stable, the exposure dose on the surface and the content of radio-nuclides in water do not exceed the norms," the service said in a report published on Wednesday.

The service's operations coordination center in Kyiv has been receiving numerous anxious calls related to the fire in the restricted Chornobyl zone.

"There is no threat of the capital city's contamination by radiation and no danger to the lives and health of people," the center underlined.
