Poroshenko asks Jagland to help Ukraine with release of hostages
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has asked the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland to help Ukraine with the release of all the Ukrainian hostages, especially MP Nadia Savchenko and film director Oleh Sentsov, who are being held in Russia.
Poroshenko spoke on the importance of an urgent settlement of the complicated humanitarian situation in Donbas, as well as on the admission of Ukrainian and international humanitarian aid to the occupied territories, the presidential press service has reported, on the results of the Poroshenko's meeting with Jagland in Kyiv on Wednesday.
The parties also discussed the violation of the human rights of Crimean Tatars in occupied Crimea.
According to the report, the president spoke about the necessity to examine the law "on ensuring rights for fair trial" together with the experts of the Venice Commission.
"The head of state addressed the Secretary General of the Council of Europe to speed up carrying out such an examination and to do it before the law comes into effect," the press service said.
