Poroshenko and Kerry discuss Donbas situation, UNSC draft resolution on Ukraine

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry discussed the situation in Ukraine's south-eastern regions in a recent telephone conversation.

According to the Ukrainian leader's press center, Poroshenko and Kerry expressed concern over continuing breaches of the latest ceasefire in Donbas, especially near the town of Debaltseve, despite the agreements signed in the Belarusian capital Minsk on February 12.

The sides agreed that the Special Monitoring Mission of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE SMM) does not have full access in order to be able to monitor and verify the withdrawal of military hardware and de-escalation, the press center said.

"They also reiterated the need to fulfill all points of the agreements, including the restoration of control over the Ukrainian-Russian border," it said.

Poroshenko and Kerry discussed their approaches toward further steps, including the UN Security Council's draft resolution on Ukraine.

Kerry also assured Poroshenko of Washington's firm support for the policies pursued by Kyiv.
