OECD Secretary General promises Poroshenko backing for Ukraine reform program

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has discussed a cooperation program and an action plan aimed at supporting the program of reforms in Ukraine with Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Secretary General Jose Angel Gurria during a meeting in Davos.

"Gurria has confirmed that the decision of the OECD of March 12, 2014 on the suspension of the process of Russia's accession to the OECD and the intensification of cooperation with Ukraine remained in force. According to him, all members of the Organization still observe this position," reads a report posted on the president's website on Wednesday.

In the coming days, it is planned that special joint events will take place on implementing the anti-corruption policy of Ukraine and establishing institutional capability. It foresees the fulfillment of a series of projects in strategic economic sectors: the agriculture business, mechanical engineering, the energy sector (particularly renewable energy) and the support of small and medium sized business, the report said.

Gurria has assured that the OECD was willing to enhance its program of cooperation with Ukraine. According to him, Estonia, Lithuania, USA, Slovakia, Sweden and the EU have already confirmed their readiness to become donors in general.

Poroshenko has noted that 15 years of cooperation between Ukraine and the OECD has created a good basis for the fulfillment of joint projects that would facilitate the implementation of reforms and the Association Agreement with the EU.
