UN: Number of internally displaced persons in Ukraine tops 610,000
The number of internally displaced persons in Ukraine stood at 610,400 as of December 26, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) said.
According to it, 19,900 persons fled their homes in Crimea and 590,400 moved from eastern regions of Ukraine.
The data was presented on the organization's website.
It said 248,500 displaced persons were seeking asylum in neighboring countries, including 245,500 who had applied for a refugee status in Russia and 2,200 in Poland. A total of 342,000 persons are seeking other forms of stay in neighboring countries, the organization said.
