Ukraine intended to reestablish free trade relations with Singapore, adopt experience in combating corruption – Poroshenko

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and Premier of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong discussed stepping up of the cooperation between two countries.

"Petro Poroshenko expressed gratitude to Lee Hsien Loong for his personal support of Ukraine's territorial integrity and inviolability of borders. Singapore authorities have declared this support for the first time at the beginning of Russian invasion to the Crimea," the president's press service reported on the results of the meeting in Singapore.

"USA, Canada, Japan, Australia and other countries demonstrate solidarity with Ukraine today. I am grateful that Singapore is among them," the head of state said.

Besides, the parties discussed cooperation in military-technical and scientific spheres, mentioned the necessity to restore negotiations on the free trade area between Ukraine and Singapore, as well as providing the international macrofinancial assistance to Ukraine.

Poroshenko stressed that combating corruption was one of the main priorities for the Ukrainian government.

Poroshenko highly evaluated the activities of the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau of Singapore and offered to share Singapore's experience in its struggle against corruption adding that the Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine would soon begin its functioning, thus, the involvement of Singapore's successful experience would be important.

"We must be transparent. Cooperation with Singapore will provide a powerful signal for investors' trust," the head of state said.

The parties have also discussed further intensification of cooperation between the countries on the international arena, particularly within the UN and its institutions.
