Yatseniuk, Nuland discuss further gas talks with Russia with EC's involvement

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk and U.S. State Department Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland have discussed the fulfillment of Ukrainian-U.S. agreements aimed at support of reform in Ukraine and further gas talks with Russia.

Yatseniuk also stressed the need that Ukraine's incumbent parliament should pass a package of anticorruption reform, which is tabled for the special parliament session on Tuesday, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers said.

"Arseniy Yatseniuk has confirmed the Ukrainian side's resolute intention to hold a free and transparent parliament election, following which a strong pro-European coalition should be formed. The government has prepared packages of tax and budget reform, which will be promptly submitted to the new parliament," the press service said.

Yatseniuk and Nuland also touched upon the issues of energy security. The Ukrainian prime minister reiterated readiness to continue the gas talks with Russia with the European Commission's involvement. "The Ukrainian side is ready for a mutually acceptable solution on the basis of market prices of gas and its transit," he said.

The sides also discussed "issues of cooperation with the international community in providing humanitarian assistance to internally displaced persons and local residents who suffer from Russia-led terrorists."

Yatseniuk noted that Russia needs to strictly abide by the ceasefire agreements, and separately stressed the key importance of regaining full control of the Ukraine-Russia border.
