Broadcasting center in Donetsk seized by unknown people
Unidentified people have seized the radio and television broadcasting center in Donetsk, which is a part of the Broadcasting, Radio Communications and Television Concern, a source from the concern told Interfax-Ukraine.
"Yes, they took over our center yesterday. They are starting to broadcast Russian channels, including Rossiya 24," the source said.
In turn, chief editor of the local Internet publication Ostrov Serhiy Harmash wrote on Twitter: "The regional radio and television broadcasting center in Petrovsky district in Donetsk has been seized.". He added that though Ukrainian channels were still being broadcast, pro-Russian forces were in control of the TV tower.
As reported, pro-Russian protestors seized the Donetsk regional TV and radio company's headquarters at 61 Kuibysheva Street without a single shot on Sunday and raised the flag of the "Donetsk People's republic." They demanded that Ukrainian channels be switched off and Russian broadcasts launched. They also demanded that the regional TV company cover protestors' position.
They later vacated the Donetsk state regional television and radio company building leaving only their security guard there after the broadcast of the Rossiya 24 Channel was started.
