Makeyenko dismissed as head of Kyiv City State Administration

Volodymyr Makeyenko has been dismissed as head of Kyiv City State Administration.

A respective decree was posted on the Web site of the acting head of state on Friday.

Makeyenko was appointed head of the Kyiv city administration on January 25, 2014. On February 20, after the mass clashes began in Kyiv, he announced his withdrawal from the Party of Regions and assumed responsibility for the situation in the Ukrainian capital.

On February 24, Kyiv City Council Secretary Halyna Hereha tendered her resignation.

The term of office of Kyiv City Council expired on June 2, 2013.

Last Kyiv Mayor Leonid Chernovetsky resigned in early June 2012.

The Verkhovna Rada scheduled early elections for Kyiv City Council deputies and Kyiv mayor for May 25, 2014, simultaneously with snap presidential elections.
