Police do not take active actions against protesters blocking of government quarter

1 min read

Law enforcement agencies that safeguard law and order downtown Kyiv are not yet taking any active actions against the protesters that are blocking of the government quarter.

"Law enforcers are standing in chains near the administrative buildings and ask protesters not to create provocations," the Kyiv police's main department told Interfax-Ukraine on Sunday afternoon.

Law enforcement officers formed cordons near the buildings of the presidential administration, the Cabinet of Ministers, and the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament.

The police cordon outside the parliament's building divides two opposite rallies – a rally of those who protest against the incumbent government and of those who support the ruling Party of Regions. The latter gathered in Kyiv's Mariyinsky Park in support of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and the incumbent government headed by Prime Minister Mykola Azarov.
