Ukraine plans to boost supplies of grain, sunflower oil, and confectionary products to South Korea and start exporting meat to the country, reads a press release of the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry of Ukraine.

The press release says that the issue was discussed by Ukrainian Agricultural Policy and Food Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk and President of the Association of Interparliamentary Relations with Ukraine of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Cho Jeong Sik.

"It is important for us that 10-15% of agricultural and food products imported by South Korea are of Ukrainian origin. So, last year, Ukraine successfully started exporting vegetables to South Korea. However, we also have a good potential for other positions. In particular, Ukraine plans to become one of the main suppliers of grain to South Korea in the near future," the press service said, citing Prysiazhniuk.

He noted that Ukraine is currently preparing to start supplies of meat to South Korea. The certification of the relevant Ukrainian enterprises is being completed.

The press release says that South Korea expressed its interest in purchasing Ukrainian grain, meat and other agricultural products. In addition, South Korea is considering increasing investments into Ukrainian agricultural sector.

The Ukrainian ministry said that in 2012, trade turnover of agricultural products between Ukraine and South Korea amounted to $251.2 million, which is five times up on 2011. The export amounted to $245.2 million.
