Deputy Prime Minister Vilkul against increase in utility tariffs

Tariffs on utility services should not be raised, Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Vilkul has said.

"Tariffs on utility services should certainly be stable. This issue is under personal oversight of the government," he said during a conference call in Kyiv on Friday.

Vilkul noted that this year there are a lot of negative examples of increases in tariffs in the regions.

"There were attempts to increase the tariffs in almost all regions in the country, apart from Dnipropetrovsk region and the cities of Kyiv and Sevastopol," he said.

He demanded that local councils that increased tariffs double-check the expediency of such increases and bring them into compliance with economically justified tariffs.

Vilkul also instructed the Ministry of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities to intensify work to verify the expediency of increasing utility tariffs in the regions and promised that this issue would be discussed at a government meeting in two weeks.
