Kyiv hopes for maximum temporary use of Association Agreement with EU before its ratification, says Kozhara

Ukraine is waiting for an answer from the European Union on the issue of the temporary introduction of some parts of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement before its ratification and full introduction, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara has said.

"All member states of the EU have to ratify the Association Agreement before it takes effect. Obviously, this is not a task that will take just one day," the minister said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

In connection with this, Ukraine suggests considering the temporary use of the Association Agreement before the ratification process ends and the agreement takes effect in full, the minister said.

"Ukraine thinks that the temporary introduction of the Association Agreement should be as wide as possible. We are ready to start the implementation of the agreement not only in the spheres of the EU's competence, I mean in the context of the functioning of a free trade area, but also in politics and specific spheres, justice, freedom and security," the diplomat said.

Kozhara added that the EU continues to discuss the issue today.

"As soon as the EU forms its position, both sides will agree on temporary use of the agreement during bilateral consultations," the minister said.
