Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Jan Tombinski has said that the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement will be signed this year if Kyiv fulfills a number of conditions.

"The main message that will be given at the summit (the EU-Ukraine summit on February 25) is that 2013 is the year for signing the Association Agreement, but in order to sign it, several conditions have to be met," Tombinski told reporters at a briefing at the World Policy Institute on Wednesday.

He said these conditions were already stated in relevant documents of the EU, and by European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule during his visit to Ukraine.

According to the ambassador, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych knows what the EU expects from Ukraine and what needs to be done for the signing of the association agreement, as well as for its implementation.

As reported, on February 14, Member of the European Parliament Pawel Kowal said that Ukraine had to do its utmost to sign the Association Agreement with the European Union this year, because the signing of the document might be impossible under the next membership of the European Commission.

Ukraine expects to sign the Association Agreement with the EU, which includes the provision about the formation of a deep and comprehensive free trade area at the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius in November.
