Azarov urges government to check cases of delay social air payments to children

Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said he is indignant over cases of delayed payment of government social aid to children.

The premier said at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on Wednesday that on January 10 he had started to receive complaints about delayed payments, while he had been informed that the State Treasury transferred the necessary funds on time and in full.

Azarov instructed the government to look into the complaints, and it appeared that some labor and social protection agencies in the regions had delayed the payments on purpose due to the bureaucratic renaming of departments.

"Mildly speaking, I'm indignant over the situation," Azarov said.

He said the legislation clearly envisages the terms for the payment of social aid.

"I demand that the district state administrations in which such cases were registered severely punish the officials responsible for them," Azarov said.

He also instructed Social Policy Minister Natalia Korolevska to personally oversee each case of the non-payment of social aid.
