Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has laid flowers at the monuments to Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko and Ukrainian statesman Mykhailo Hrushevsky, the presidential press service said.

Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Rybak, Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov, Head of Kyiv City State Administration Oleksandr Popov, government officials, the clergy, and public also attended the event.

The president talked to the clergy after the ceremony.
