The Cabinet of Ministers has done a great deal of work to implement the main provisions of the law on emergency medical care, both in terms of organizational issues and improving the logistics for the functioning of the system of emergency medical care, the press service of Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Kostiantyn Hryschenko reported on Wednesday.

The vice premier said this at a meeting on the implementation of the Ukrainian law on emergency medical care.

The meeting was attended by First Deputy Head of Ukraine's Presidential Administration Iryna Akimova, Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Vilkul, Health Minister Raisa Bohatyriova, Head of the State Agency for Investment and National Projects Vladyslav Kaskiv, representatives of the Finance Ministry, the Defense Ministry, the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine, the heads of regional, Kyiv, Sevastopol city state administrations and the leadership of the Crimean Council of Ministers.

"For the first time employees of the system of emergency medical care received social benefits provided by the legislation on the rescue service. For the first time our country has approved new regulations for the arrival of emergency medical teams to the scene. As you know, the issue concerns ten minutes in cities and towns and 20 minutes outside of them," Hryschenko said.

Hryshchenko noted that the question of providing high-quality and free emergency medical care had been raised to the national level.

"To be honest, these are tough regulations, but the government deliberately took such a step and raised the bar high. We need European standards of quality in the provision of emergency medical care. For the first time this question was raised to the national level – it is directly studied by Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych," he said.

The participants in the meeting discussed problems in the implementation of the law on emergency medical care. Hryschenko named problems that need to be immediately resolved, in particular, the organization and registration of centers for emergency medical care and disaster medicine in the regions, the installation and adjustment of equipment for the organization of dispatching centers using GPS technology, the allocation of radio frequencies for communication between dispatching centers, stations of urgent medical care and urgent medical care teams, etc.
