Expert compares new Ukrainian government with Christmas tree
Ukrainian experts have noted the unpredictability of the newly created Cabinet of Ministers.
"The Party of Regions does not have a single political decision-making center. The government currently proposed by the president underlines this fact. None of the experts managed to predict such a composition. Moreover, Party of Regions insiders also could not name the composition of such a Cabinet of Ministers," Head of the Hardaryka Strategic Planning Corporation Kostiantyn Matviyenko said at a press conference on Monday.
Director of the Situations Modeling Agency Vitaliy Bala, in turn, said that the government was absolutely technocratic.
"These ministers cannot be called political figures. These are technocrats, who are appointed by one person, with a single stroke of the pen. None of the experts knew such an option, because it's impossible to predict the psychological type of a person who, according to his own ideas and interests, makes a decision," the expert said.
Head of the Penta Center for Applied Political Studies Volodymyr Fesenko said that the composition of the government was a sign of the strengthening of the positions of the "president's family" in managing the state.
"The core of the Cabinet of Ministers is made up of people from the 'family' of the president," Fesenko said, adding that the new composition of government indicates the strengthening of the positions of Yanukovych's son, Oleksandr, in managing the country.
Political expert Yevhen Mahda noted that the current composition of the Cabinet of Ministers was the biggest update of government over the period of Yanukovych's presidency.
He said that the Cabinet of Ministers had actually been renewed by two thirds and was a "Christmas tree."
"Azarov, like a star, decorates this Christmas tree, but he does not resolve anything. It's still necessary to determine in the near future who is who on this tree," he said.
