Observers from the European Parliament have said that the electoral process at the elections to the Verkhovna Rada is on the whole fair and transparent.

"Overall, the organization is excellent, the atmosphere is friendly. These are fair and transparent elections," MEP Daniel van der Stoep (the Netherlands) said at the press conference.

He said that together with his colleagues they visited five polling stations in Kyiv, where he saw several shortcomings.

According to him, one could sometimes see a person's choice in transparent ballot boxes, which violates the rule of secret ballot.

In addition, all information at the polling stations was in the Ukrainian language. According to Stoep, in some regions, this information should have been provided in Russian as well.

The MEP also criticized the close location of members of election commissions to the place where people vote, which could also affect the secrecy of the ballot.

In turn, MEP Nicholas Griffin (UK) confirmed that there were some flaws in the voting, but they were minor and should not affect the overall election process.

MEP Gerhard Huber (Austria) said that the elections were transparent on the whole. "I want to congratulate the organizers that they were able to organize open elections. I have no criticism of the electoral process," he said.
