Premier orders to investigate death of worker at construction of Ipodrom subway station

Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has instructed the State Service of Mining Supervision and Industrial Safety of Ukraine to investigate an accident at the construction site of the Ipodrom subway station in Kyiv in which a worker was killed.

The premier also ordered the state service to check whether the legislation on labor safety was observed during the construction of the subway, according to the Information and Public Liaisons Department of the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine said.

Azarov also instructed the administration of the state service to report on additional measures taken for the prevention of injuries and accidents at construction sites, particularly for the safe implementation of work at construction sites of subway and underground facilities.

On October 18, a worker was killed as a result of an accident at the construction site of the Ipodrom subway station.

The accident happened during the installation of lamps. Two workers fell down from a 1.5 meters high wooden platform onto the rails. One of the workers died in an ambulance, while the second one had light injuries and did not require hospitalization.

The Ipodrom subway station will be opened on October 25, 2012.
