The Kazakh Foreign Ministry does not confirm the detention of Kazakh citizens in the United States on suspicion of illegal high-tech exports.

"As an official representative of Kazakhstan, I announce there are no citizens of Kazakhstan amongst persons detained in the U.S.," Kazakh Foreign Ministry spokesman Altai Abibullayev told reporters in Astana on Monday.

"Pursuant to Item 5, Article 21 of the Citizenship Law, a person shall lose naturalization by Kazakhstan in the case of naturalization by another country. Hence, we announce the absence of Kazakh citizens amongst persons detained in the aforesaid case. Alexander Fishchenko, a native of Kazakhstan, lost Kazakh citizenship after he had been naturalized by Russia and, later on, by the United States," he said.

Eleven people were charged by the U.S. authorities on Wednesday with illegally exporting high-tech microelectronic devices from the United States to Russia. A Houston court remanded eight of them in custody.

Charges were also brought against three Russian citizens, who are currently in Moscow.

Russian Consul General in Houston Alexander Zakharov said that the persons detained in the United States include four Russians, as well as citizens of Azerbaijan, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.
