Verkhovna Rada profile committee recommends hold elections of Kyiv mayor in spring 2013
The Verkhovna Rada Committee on state building and local government has recommended that the elections for Kyiv mayor be held in the spring of 2013.
"We decided to hold the elections for Kyiv mayor in the spring of 2013," a member of the committee (BYT-Batkivschyna), Olha Bodnar, told journalists on Monday.
According to her, the decision was adopted unanimously.
"I think these elections could actually be held now… But [Head of Kyiv City State Administration Oleksandr] Popov seems not to be ready yet," she said.
At the same time, according to her, the committee has not chosen the date of the elections, as the decision of the committee was a recommendation.
"We recommend that the Verkhovna Rada plan to hold elections [for Kyiv mayor] in the spring of 2013," Bodnar said, quoting the decision of the committee.
However, she said that this question isn't stipulated in the agenda on October 2.
Resolving this issue will depend on the results of the parliamentary elections.
"Depending on how the elections are held… If [the Regions Party] doesn't win, I think that they'll try to win in Kyiv. Or vice versa: if they see that they have no chance in Kyiv, then they'll do something else," the MP said.
