Infrastructure Ministry supports 4-fold rise of insurance claims paid to injured in car accidents

Kyiv, September 27 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Infrastructure Ministry has expressed support for increasing insurance claims paid to the passengers that were injured in car accidents, from 6,000 to 24,000 untaxed minimum incomes of citizens, the ministry reported on Thursday.

Employees of the security department of the Infrastructure Ministry have drawn up a corresponding draft of a governmental decree.

"Insurance claims don't match today's level of cost of the medical aid provided to people who were injured in car accidents, or expenses spent on the burial of those killed, or pecuniary compensation because of the loss of a breadwinner in a car accident," the text read.

According to the ministry's findings, in 2011 competent enterprises transferred UAH 86.114 million to insurance companies, while insurance claims totaled just UAH 358,938.

The draft decree is posted on the official Web site of the ministry. Proposals and remarks are to be accepted for 30 calendar days from the moment the document was posted.
