Zelenskyy: Trump able to help Ukraine stop Putin
U.S. President-elect Donald Trump can be decisive and able to help Ukraine stop Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said.
“Trump can be decisive. For us, this is the most important thing. His qualities are indeed there. He can be decisive in this war. He is capable of stopping Putin … or, to put it more fairly, help us stop Putin,” Zelenskyy said in an interview broadcast on the national telethon on Thursday evening.
He also noted that Trump is strong and unpredictable. The head of the Ukrainian state wanted "President Trump's unpredictability to concern primarily the Russian Federation.” Zelensky also believes that Trump really wants to end the war.
He also noted that he had no negative communication with the U.S. president-elect last year.
The Head of the Ukrainian state recalled that his team and the Trump team are in constant contact. "The head of my office [Andriy Yermak] has already had meetings, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs has contacts. Our defense minister has separate contacts," Zelenskyy said.
According to him, if the U.S. position is strong around Ukraine, it will be easier to unite other partners.
"To be honest, the Europeans are giving undivided attention to the opinion of the President of the United States, the new President of the United States of America. A lot depends on him, that's a fact. Because, once again, he's determined. I think Putin is afraid of him," Zelenskyy said.
