French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer reaffirmed their determination to stand by Ukraine as long as it takes to win at the Elysee Palace on Monday.

"On the situation in Ukraine, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to close cooperation, stressing their determination to stand by Ukraine as long as it takes to win at the war of aggression that Russia is waging against Ukraine," the communiqué published on the Elysee Palace website reads.

During the meeting, the leaders of the two countries discussed key international issues. Continuing the messages delivered at the European Political Community summit in Hungary, President Macron noted the need to defend Europeans' own interests and responsibilities in terms of security and defense. As indicated by the Elysee Palace, the leaders discussed the outlook for relations between the European Union and the United Kingdom.

They also assessed the situation in the Middle East and expressed their desire to continue working with all regional and international partners to return peace and security for all in the Middle East.

In addition, Macron and Starmer reaffirmed their desire to deepen bilateral relations, especially in terms of security and defence, with a view to the next bilateral summit, which is expected to take place in the UK in 2025. They also agreed to step up cooperation on artificial intelligence, ocean protection and biodiversity, as well as development and climate issues.

The Telegraph previously reported that Starmer and Macron plan to discuss at their meeting on Monday how to persuade U.S. President Joe Biden to allow Ukraine to strike targets deep inside Russian territory with Storm Shadow missiles.
