Zelenskyy on new FM Sybiha: This year we need productive second Peace Summit
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy introduced the newly appointed head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Andriy Sybiha and stated that one of the priorities of the diplomats' work should be holding a productive second Peace Summit this year.
"This year we need a productive second Peace Summit. This means maximum involvement of the world in the implementation of the Peace Formula and maximum strengthening of our positions in order to make the process of restoring peace truly fair," Zelenskyy said.
According to the president, peace for Ukraine and a fair end to this war is not just a historical mission, but daily and very painstaking work. "I am confident that Ukraine is capable of doing this work – winning this war and ensuring peace," he said.
Zelenskyy named increased attention to Ukraine's neighboring countries as another priority.
"We understand how difficult the political process is, for example, now in Poland. Moreover, a new electoral process will soon begin there. We understand the situation in Hungary, we understand the situation in Slovakia, Moldova, Romania. All this requires delicacy, persistence and protection of Ukrainian interests, as well as our common interests with our neighbors," the head of state said.
The president also said Ukraine should be heard and known in all regions of the world. Much has already been done for this, but more is needed. In particular, he focused on strengthening work in Latin America, Africa, and Asian countries.
An important issue is the urgent needs of the front and ensuring the stability of the entire state. The announced defense packages must be delivered as quickly as possible.
"Provision of the front, joint defense production, ... strengthening sanctions against Russia and the use of Russian assets for the sake of Ukrainian defense, support for our communities abroad," the president said.
Zelenskyy said the standard for Ukrainian diplomatic workers abroad should be a deep understanding of the host country. This is how the Ukrainian state's representation abroad should function.
In turn, Sybiha said the department will work persistently, principledly and actively: diplomatically where necessary, and harshly where necessary.
