Zelenskyy links Russian operation with liberation of border area from Russian troops to protect Sumy region from shelling

Ukraine controls about 1,000 square kilometers in Kursk region, from where, in particular, the Russian Federation shelled Sumy region, so Ukrainian operations are "purely a security issue for Ukraine," said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"I’ve hold a meeting of Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff Headquarters. There was a report by Commander-in-Chief Syrsky on the front and all key defensive lines. On the operation in Kursk region, General Syrsky reported that about a thousand square kilometers in Kursk region are controlled. These are, in particular, the areas from which the Russian army attacked our Sumy region," Zelenskyy said in his traditional evening video message on Monday.

According to the President, since June 1, the Russians have carried out almost 2,100 attacks on the territory of Sumy region.

"Therefore, our operations are purely a matter of security for Ukraine, the liberation of the border area from the Russian military," Zelenskyy stressed.

He thanked all Ukrainian soldiers, sergeants and officers for their courage and for the effectiveness of their actions.
