European Energy Commissioner announces EC's grant to Ukraine Energy Support Fund of over EUR 50 mln

European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson announced the European Commission's grant contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund in the amount of more than EUR 50 million, the Ministry of Energy reported.

The European Commissioner noted, as quoted in a Ministry of Energy release on Wednesday, that Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Haluschenko was with them (at the meeting of the EU-European Council of Energy Ministers), and she also expressed the EC's unwavering support for Ukraine on the eve of another difficult winter.

She stressed that the European community must be prepared for continued Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure in the coming winter and make efforts to minimize them.

As noted in the message, Simson also called on European states to continue contributions to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, which will allow the purchase of equipment necessary to restore damaged energy facilities.

"I really thank Kadri Simson and all the countries that became donors to the Fund. Thanks to this help, as well as the efforts of our military and energy workers, we will definitely survive and maintain our energy system," Haluschenko noted for his part.

As reported, the Ukraine Energy Support Fund was created in the spring of 2022 on the joint initiative of the Minister of Energy of Ukraine and the European Commissioner for Energy to accumulate contributions from governments, international financial organizations, as well as private donors in support of the Ukrainian energy sector. As of mid-July of this year, the volume of the Fund was about $220 million.
