Gas distribution companies (GDC), operating under the brand name of Regional Gas Company (RGC), are ready to gasify the gas cogeneration plants under construction in Ukraine and supply them with natural gas.

"They (GDS operators under the RGC brand) have technical expertise and have access to the technologies of leading gas equipment manufacturers, as well as the experience of European GDS operators," RGC said in a press release on Tuesday.

The first cogeneration plant in Ukraine in the form of a gas piston power plant with a capacity of 1 MW was launched on Tuesday in Irpin, Kyiv region.

According to RGC, in March a similar power plant will be launched in Chernihiv, then in Sumy and Poltava regions. It is assumed that in total about 100 such installations will be installed in Ukraine.

This figure was previously announced by Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy and Utilities Andriy Gerus, saying that cogeneration plants will power the most critical facilities, such as schools, hospitals, and kindergartens.

According to a press release, JSC Kyivoblgaz has built a medium-pressure gas pipeline for the gas piston station in Irpin.

According to RGC information, new technologies introduced by the company, including RGC GIS and Simone software products, were used to speed up the connection of the cogeneration unit to the gas pipeline.

"In order to provide the installation with gas, we laid a gas pipeline to it and carried out a hydraulic calculation using the Czech Simone software package, which significantly accelerated the design work and laying of gas networks," said Ruslan Pysanko, acting head of the board of Kyivoblgaz, whose words are quoted in the press release.

In the conditions of constant power outages, the gas cogeneration plant in Irpin will become a backup source of electricity for the central boiler house of the Teploenergopostach checkpoint, which provides heat to 70% of the inhabitants of Irpin.

In addition to the boiler house, the lyceums of innovative technologies, as well as kindergarten No. 1, Irpin City Council and Irpin State Tax Inspectorate will also receive electricity from the installation.
