Army cannot be strong with weak economy - Groysman

Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman shares the opinion on the insufficient level of financing the needs of rearmament of the Armed Forces in the draft national budget for 2019, but proposes to link the needs for these purposes with the objective capabilities of the national economy.

"Undoubtedly, we need to provide the Ukrainian army with new weapons more ... But the budget should be realistic," he said at the Verkhovna Rada on occasion of the transfer of the bill on the national budget for 2019 to the parliament for consideration.

According to Groysman, since 2014 the defense needs of the state and the Armed Forces have been included in the key priorities of the government's budget policy.

"Perhaps they [the priorities] are far from ideal, but I know for sure ... we are doing everything for the provision of the Ukrainian army," he said.

Speaking about the draft national budget for 2019, the prime minister noted "the most important thing is that we have a serious problem ... we have a problem of servicing external debts."
