MP Yuzhanina proposes to cut excise duties on car imports

Head of the parliamentary committee for tax and customs policy Nina Yuzhanina has proposed to cut the excise duty on imports of cars and presented the proposed duties approved by activists of the AutoEuroSila movement.

"On my scale, for a new car with an engine capacity of 1,600 cubic centimeters it will be necessary to pay EUR 150, for a car up to five years old (Euro 5 emission standard) – EUR 300, made in 2005-2009 (Euro-4) – EUR 750, in 2000-2004 (Euro-3) - EUR1,500, and for Euro-2 – EUR 7,500. Here, the excise duty will carry out a regulatory function to restrict the import of these cars to Ukraine," Yuzhanina said in an interview with Novoye Vremia magazine.

At the same time, she recalled that the current rate for a new car with an engine capacity of 1,600 cubic centimeters is EUR 427, up to five years old – EUR 2,629, over five years – EUR 3,906.

"We calculated it [the excise duty rate] so that it protects the country from the environmental harm caused by old cars, but the rates will be lowered," she said.

The press service of the parliamentary committee for tax and customs policy said that these rates were agreed with the activists of AutoEuroSila, but are now under consideration by the Finance Ministry, which should calculate the effect of this decision on budget revenues. This is one of the three parts of the bill, which, after the approval by all interested parties, will be registered in parliament.
