Over 700 ha with walnut-trees to be irrigated in Vinnytsia region

Young walnut-trees of foreign selection have been planted on 710 ha in Vinnytsia region. The areas will be irrigated, according to a posting on the website of the Vinnytsia Regional Administration.

According to the report, investment in the planted area since 2015 has reached UAH 227 million. Since early 2018, some UAH 2.5 million was spent.

"Under the project the irrigation system located on the territory of Yaryshivka rural council and Kremenets rural council is being restored. The blueprints for the projects for UAH 240,000 have been designed. The cost of the restoration of the system would be over UAH 4 million. Pump stations, power lines and transformer substations, main pipelines have been restored. Over 2 km of new irrigation system have been equipped. Irrigation will be on the area of 710 ha," the press service said.

The press service said that Ukrainian Walnul LLC is implementing the project started in 2015. The project includes planting of walnut-trees on 970 ha.

"Every year over 100,000 tonnes of walnuts are harvested in Ukraine, including 6,000 tonnes in Vinnytsia region. Two thirds of the harvest is exported," Head of the Vinnytsia Regional Administration Valeriy Koroviy said.

The area of walnut gardens in Vinnytsia region currently exceeds 2,000 ha, of which 1,000 ha in fruiting age, and the yield last year reached 60 centners per ha.
