Coal industry ministry recommends increasing coal price by 10.2% by state-owned coalmines from Nov 1

The Energy and Coal Industry Ministry of Ukraine recommends increasing the price of coal made by state-owned coalmines for heat generation (thermal power plants (TPPs) and combined heat and power plants (CHPPs) by 10.2% from November 1, 2017, from UAH 2,200 to UAH 2,425 per tonne (VAT and transportation costs not included) with average calorific capacity of Ukrainian gas coal of 5,200 kilocalories.

The decision was made at a meeting devoted to the determining of the upper price of coal headed by Minister Ihor Nasalyk on October 26. The minutes of the meeting have been posted on the ministry's website.

According to the document, Nasalyk said at the meeting that steam coal prices on foreign markets grew and the current price of UAH 2,200 per tonne does not suit the market prices.

"In order to neutralize the threats to Ukraine's energy security and stably pass of the autumn-winter period 2017/2018, the meeting participants are invited to decide on the need to raise the price of coal products, which will create conditions for the sustainable operation of energy companies," the document says.

As reported, the price of coal made by state-owned coalmines for TPPs and CHPPs was increased by 10% from September 1, to UAH 2,200 per tonne (VAT and transportation costs not included).
