Breakthrough of Shehyni checkpoint is unacceptable, sign of disrespect for Ukraine's statehood
Justice Minister Pavlo Petrenko believes that the fact of breaking through the state border of Ukraine at the Shehyni checkpoint during which ex-president of Georgia and leader of the New Forces Movement political party in Ukraine Mikheil Saakashvili entered Ukrainian territory is inadmissible.
"I can only express my personal opinion that what happened at the border is unacceptable, because the border regime and border crossing are issues of national security," the minister told journalists in Kyiv on Tuesday.
He said that regardless of what status a person has, he "has no right to illegally cross the border, since this is actually a manifestation of disrespect for the statehood of this country."
"And the assessment of certain actions of specific individuals who were present during this incident should be given by competent law enforcement agencies in strict accordance with Ukrainian legislation," the minister said.
