Turkey yet to confirm it imposed restrictions on Russian wheat imports

The Turkish authorities have not confirmed imposing restrictions on importation of Russian wheat, Deputy Economic Development Minister Alexei Gruzdev told journalists.

"We had a meeting with the Turkish profile ministries, the Economy and Agriculture ministries, that did not confirm imposition of restrictions," he said.

The Economic Development Ministry is currently trying to confirm the information, including with members of the business community and companies engaged in exporting wheat to Turkey.

"For the time being we do not have official confirmation [that restrictions have been imposed]. The Turkish side has not officially confirmed that it made any decision restricting imports. Moreover, we literally had, as you are aware, contacts at the highest level. There was my visit before this and the meeting with the economy ministry, the deputy minister who is in charge of these topics," he said.

The ministries discussed the outlook for mutual cooperation and not any sort of restrictive steps, Gruzdev said.
