Government to guarantee building waste recycler if Lviv receives EIB consent

Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers would provide guarantees for the implementation of a project on reclamation of a landfill and construction of a waste recycling plant in Lviv if the city's authorities reach a loan agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB), Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman has said.

"If the city reaches an agreement with the creditor EIB, the government would quickly give relevant guarantees for the implementation of the project," the press service of the government reported, citing Groysman.

Groysman said that the government quickly reacts to an address of the Lviv mayor about the plans of the city council to raise loans from international financial organizations to reclaim the landfill and build a modern waste recycling plant. The two selection phases have been agreed with Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities Economy Ministry and Finance Ministry.

On September 27, the Finance Ministry approved the provision of local guarantee for Lvivvodokanal under a EUR 15 million loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and a EUR 5 million loan from the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO) for rehabilitation of wastewater treatment infrastructure and building a wastewater biogas combined heat and power plant (CHP).
