Germany allocates another EUR 6 mln on FAO humanitarian aid projects in eastern Ukraine

The German federal government has increased the size of its financial assistance to a humanitarian aid program of immediate assistance to civilians suffering from сonflict in eastern Ukraine, as implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) by another EUR 6 million.

"The FAO will be provided with another EUR 6 million for its activities in eastern Ukraine this and next years," the Embassy of Germany in Ukraine said on Monday.

The embassy's statement reads that Germany allocated EUR 4.5 million on the FAO's humanitarian projects in Ukraine in 2015.

"The goal of this humanitarian project launched in 2014 is...to provide people, who suffered during the conflict in eastern Ukraine, with help and necessary food. The project makes a significant contribution in the survival of many internally displaced people as well as families in the communities which accepted the refugees and people who suffered from the conflict at both sides of the boundary line in Donetsk and Luhansk regions," the embassy said.

The FAO has provided with assistance 650,000 people since the beginning of the conflict in eastern Ukraine, the embassy said.
