ATB-Market sees 16.5% rise in goods turnover in 2015, plans to open more than 100 new stores in 2016

ATB-Market LLC (Dnipropetrovsk), the owner of the ATB discounter grocery chain in Ukraine, saw UAH 46.7 billion of goods turnover in 2015 (VAT included), boosting the indicator by 16.5% from a year ago.

Board Chairman and Director General of ATB Corporation Borys Markov said in an interview with the Business publication on February 29, 2016, a rise in goods turnover in 2015 was linked to the two main favors –large expansion of the chain and inflation.

"Average sales in the retail chain per store in packages in 2015 are comparable with indicators of 2014," he said.

He said that in 2015, the shares of price segments were redistributed. The share of premium segment goods was less than 1% of total sales, while goods turnover of the upper price segment fell by 20% from a year ago.

Markov said that sales in the medium price segment grew by 10%, and the lower price segment sales slightly fell.

He said that in 2015, the ATB chain was expanded with 54 new stores, which were mainly opened in Kyiv city and region. The total number of employees of ATB-Market LLC rose by over 3,000, and reached 35,600 by late 2015. He also said that in 2016, the company plans to actively extend its chain and start operations in new regions. The number of employees by late 2016 could exceed 41,000.

"We plan to open over 100 new stores, including in the regions that are new for the chain. Development in western Ukraine and active growth in southern regions are of top priority," Markov said.

He said that the corporation does not plan to develop the chain outside Ukraine.

ATB-Market LLC was founded in 1993. As of February 20, 2016, a total of 730 stores were operating in Ukraine.
