EU continues providing technical, financial assistance for creation of anti-corruption authority

The European Union (EU) continues providing technical and financial assistance for the quick creation of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, MP from Petro Poroshenko Bloc and head of the parliamentary committee for European integration Iryna Gerashchenko has said, referring to Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Jan Tombinski.

Gerashchenko wrote on her Facebook page that on Thursday Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko had a meeting with a delegation of the European Parliament that represents the Parliamentary Committee of the Association and Tombinski was present at the meeting.

"Of course, the position of the European Commission on the creation of the anti-corruption authority was discussed. Tombinski denied information appeared in media in the morning on Thursday that allegedly the EU has blocked financial assistance to Ukraine for the creation of this important anti-corruption authority. On the contrary, Tombinski said that the European Commission supports the acceleration of all processes for the creation of the anti-corruption authority. The president, in turn, said that he is waiting that the commission will hold a tender by December 2015. The European Commission continue providing financial assistance for the creation of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, in particular, it finances training of the head office's employees, but they are ready to train employees of the future regional divisions," Gerashchenko wrote.

She said that the task of Ukrainian authorities is to launch the authority as soon as possible.

"The tender commission is to elect the anti-corruption prosecutor at a transparent tender as soon as possible," she said.

She said that prospects of visa liberalization between Ukraine and the EU and the "contribution" of the Ukrainian parliament in it on Thursday were also discussed.
