Ukraine to raise issue of legitimacy of Russian sanctions against Ukrainian airlines in possible consultations

The time and place of a meeting of representatives of the Federal Air Transport Agency of Russia (Rosaviatsiya) and the State Aviation Service of Ukraine for consultations on air transportation between the countries hasn’t been set, Ukrainian Minister of Infrastructure Andriy Pyvovarsky has said.

"We are still discussing the subject of this meeting, we have a lot of questions as to why air service was closed for Ukrainian airlines that did not violate Ukrainian laws, did not violate the bilateral agreement [with Russia], and why transit over Russia is closed for Ukrainian companies. There are many questions we would like to ask," he said.

Asked whether there are plans to increase the number of trains between the two countries, Pyvovarsky said "today we do not see an increase in the demand for rail service."

As reported, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko by his decree of September 16 enforced a resolution of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine dated September 2, 2015, on the application of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions) which applies to several Russian airlines, including Aeroflot.
