Shmyhal: Ukraine harvests almost 4 times more wheat than domestic consumption
The wheat harvest allows Ukraine to remain the guarantor of food security for many countries, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said.
"Ukrainian farmers have already harvested about 40 million tonnes of the new crop. The wheat harvest this year amounted to about 22 million tonnes. Domestic consumption is about 6 million tonnes. That is, Ukraine has harvested almost four times more wheat than domestic consumption. This allows us to remain the guarantor of food security for many countries," Shmyhal said at a government meeting on Friday.
The prime minister also noted that the market for demining agricultural land is gaining momentum.
"There are already applications for demining almost 5,000 sites with a total area exceeding 21,000 hectares. The first auctions are taking place in the ProZorro system," he added.
