Ukrainian ports increase transshipment volume by 1.6 times in six months
In January-June 2024, the ports of Ukraine increased the volume of transshipment by 1.6 times, to 53 million tonnes, amid an increase in processing volumes in the Black Sea ports and a decrease in the Danube ports, the press service of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA) reported.
"In just six months of 2024, Ukrainian ports handled 53 million tonnes versus 31.2 million tonnes in 2023, a total of 6,046 vessels were handled," the statement said.
It is indicated that in June the cargo turnover of the ports amounted to 7 million tonnes, which is 1.5 times higher than in 2023. At the same time, about 80%, or 5.6 million tonnes, were shipped through the Ukrainian sea corridor. More than half of this volume - 3.6 million tonnes - was made up of products from Ukrainian farmers.
Grain cargo remains the leader in cargo transshipment at ports. During the month, 4.4 million tonnes were handled versus 3.4 million tonnes in 2023, as well as ore cargo - 1.2 million tonnes versus 200,000 tonnes in 2023.
"90% of foreign trade goes through the ports of the Danube and Greater Odesa. The Danube ports today export at the level of 1.5-1.3 million tonnes. The reason is unblockade of the ports of Odesa and the seasonal decline in export volumes," the message quotes the head of USPA Yuriy Lytvyn.
According to the Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development, 2.79 million tonnes were exported through the ports of the Danube cluster in June 2023, and 2.98 million tonnes in July.
