Preparations are underway for a visit by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal to Warsaw scheduled for the end of March, a joint meeting of the Polish and Ukrainian governments will be also held at that time, Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland Vasyl Zvarych has said.

In an interview with Polska Agencja Prasowa (РАР), the diplomat emphasized that it will be a very important format for relations between the countries.

"There are also a lot of very specific, practical plans in the fields of economic cooperation, military industry, and security," he said.

A meeting of the Economic Cooperation Commission will be held ahead of the Ukrainian prime minister's visit due in late March, Zvarych said.

Speaking about a visit by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk to Kyiv in January, the Ukrainian ambassador said this was a new discovery in the Polish-Ukrainian relations.

"We want to talk to each other, implement a lot of good projects, strengthen our strategic partnership, and I think that was a step in the right direction," he said.

The ambassador was also asked about a statement made by Polish President Andrzej Duda in May 2022 at a plenary session of the Verkhovna Rada about a new good neighborliness treaty. Zvarych said that talks on the documents were in progress.

"This is a very serious work," he said, emphasizing that it is about "in fact concluding a new, basic agreement on cooperation between Ukraine and Poland."

The diplomat also noted that the agreement concluded in 1992 needs to be updated.

"This required a detailed work. The Polish side is working on the draft. We will see the draft soon and continue the work on this issue," Zvarych said.

As reported, during a visit to Kyiv on January 22, Tusk invited Shmyhal to visit Warsaw for the resumption of intergovernmental consultations.
