US Senate should proceed to approve request on Ukraine aid after adoption of interim budget - majority leader

After the adoption of the interim budget, the U.S. Senate should proceed to approve a package of additional national security funding, which includes military assistance to Ukraine, said Chuck Schumer, Democrat, Senate majority leader.

“Once Congress avoids a shutdown, it is my goal for the Senate to move forward to the national security supplemental as soon as possible, he said on X.

As reported on January 15, the leaders of the U.S. Congress agreed on a bill on temporary financing in two tranches to preserve the federal government in March and prevent its partial closure in January.

Funding for some federal agencies, including the Department of Transportation, expires on January 19, while for others, such as the Department of Defense, the deadline expires on February 2.
