Eleven Russian military officers, who shot cars with civilians of Kyiv region, to be tried
Law enforcement officers have completed the investigation and handed over to the court materials on charges of 11 Russian servicemen who, during the occupation of Kyiv region, shot cars with civilians of Bucha district, resulting in the death of six people.
"The prosecutors of Kyiv regional prosecutor's office sent an indictment to the court against eleven servicemen of the 37th separate motorized rifle Brigade of the 36th Combined Arms Army of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, who shot cars with civilians," the Prosecutor General's Office said on theTelegram channel on Thursday.
According to the prosecutor's office, the Russian military is charged with violating the laws and customs of war, involving premeditated murder (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The investigation found that in February-March 2022, Russian servicemen armed with firearms and military equipment carried out filtration measures in the occupied village of Motyzhin and in its vicinity.
"Moving on armored vehicles with a ‘V’ mark, they opened fire on two civilian vehicles with civilians near the landscape park in Motyzhin, as well as on Shevchenko Street in the settlement itself," the report says.
The prosecutor's office clarifies that in both cases people tried to leave the combat zone towards Zhytomyr highway, the cars were moving towards enemy equipment and had no signs of belonging to the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
"When the cars stopped, the soldiers of the aggressor country opened aimed small arms fire on them without warning," the ministry stressed.
As a result of the shelling, six civilians were killed from gunshot wounds.
According to the report, measures are continuing to identify other Russian servicemen involved in the shooting of civilians.
Pretrial investigation is carried out by SBU Main Department in Kyiv and Kyiv region, operational support – by Fastiv District Administration of the Main Department of SBU in Kyiv and Kyiv region.
